Dave Savolainen Sr. has led the development of Range Corporation (dba Range Telecommunications) since it became a full-time business on April 1, 1974. Mr. Savolainen's technical expertise has allowed Range to offer industry-leading consumer and commercial electronic services including wireless, security, and telephonic services right here in the Upper Peninsula. Under his leadership, Range has received many awards, both locally and nationally, including Marquette Business of the Year (1996) and the Shining Star Award (a State of Michigan award that recognized Range for providing pagers to people waiting for organ donations, 2010). Mr. Savolainen has served as the President of SMR WON (a large, national wireless services association) and also has been seated on several technical advisory boards of major electronics manufacturers. In 2005, he was honored by the Radio Club of America during a reception at the NY Athletic Club for his development of personal communications in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. His conferral of Sr. Fellow in the Radio Club distinguishes him as the first person in Michigan to receive such an honor.
